What Did Gertrude Stein Know That We Have Forgotten?

As many of you know, I am currently being trained as a life coach. So often, I find myself in the position of giving clients career advice, be it advising writers on the best ways to get their work noticed to advising producers on the best ways of moving their projects forward. Since I’m regularly functioning as an informal creativity coach, I thought coach training would be a great way for me to be able to increase the value I provide to my clients. As part of my training, I just had the opportunity to be coached by the renowned business coach Dave Buck. Dave and I were talking about ways that I could grow my practice by finding new and innovative ways to serve clients.I have had an idea for a long time, and when I pitched it to Dave he immediately latched on to it – a SALON! It would make me so happy to run a salon on a regular basis where writers, producers and others who participate in the theatre industry get together and talk about the challenges they face, maybe do a little brainstorming, maybe read a work in progress. All in an endeavor to foster greater collaboration in the theatre industry in New York.I am having pictures of Hemingway and Fitzgerald rubbing elbows with Picasso and Matisse on Saturday nights in Gertrude Stein’s Paris home. It’s literally the stuff of a Woody Allen film! Stein knew that the creative process is at heart a collaborative process, and that there is no better way to support the creative process than bringing creators together! So now I have been challenged to launch a salon! And I am taking that challenge!I am asking anyone who has any ideas about what would make a salon great to reach out to me. And I will be reaching out to many of you as well.BTW – turns out I’m as good a coach as I am a lawyer, so if you know anyone who needs a coach for a creative project, send them my way!
